Mechanical Design Engineer II
Chief Duties and/or
Responsibilities:
Leadership and collaboration with custom automation design team.
Design of automated assembly processes
Specification writing, quoting, and conception.
Customer contact and negotiation.
Project Management.
Equipment outsourcing for projects above internal capacity.
Qualifications:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field is preferred, but not required.
Prior experience utilizing SolidWorks, AutoCAD or other equivalent 3D CAD software for design of various custom Automated Test and Assembly machines in the Automotive, Consumer Product, Aerospace or Medical Device Industries.
Proven track record in engineering leadership as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices.
Excellent communication & documentation skills, initiative to meet management objectives, and understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques.
Experience with high-speed automated assembly processes a plus.
Additional skills preferred; Custom Machining and Electrical/Controls.
Strong initiative, time management, and communication skills.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required for customer negotiations, installation and/or training.
Ability to work closely with Project Managers, Controls Engineers, Electricians, and Toolmakers during different project phases.
Assist in the development of machine manuals.
Work collaboratively with mechanical and electrical teams to prepare cost estimations and quotations.
Some domestic and international travel for concept design development, installation/debug, start-up assistance and training at various Hitachi sites.
Preferred:
Experience with the following Automation platforms:
Servo and Synchronous Rotary/Linear Indexers
Articulating, Cartesian, Gantry and SCARA Robot Systems
Powered and Palletized Conveyor Systems
Pick-and-Place, Parts Placers and Vibratory Bowl Systems
Linear and Lean Cell Assembly
Dispensing and Screw Driving Systems
Tig and Laser Welding Systems
Functional Leak Testing; Mass Spec. and Pressure Decay
