Shaker Village Visitor Engagement Department
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is dedicated to sharing Shaker lessons in community, sustainability, and ingenuity through engaging public programming, special events, workshops, and other activities. The Visitor Engagement Department is part of a site-wide initiative to create a unified approach to education, interpretation, and visitor engagement, bringing together the story of the Shakers and our land into a coherent whole that promotes deeper connections to our culture and environment.
Day Camp Counselor
This position will be responsible for the primary care and programming for summer day campers enrolled in Shaker Village's Explorer Camp. Explorer Camp operates on a Monday Friday schedule, from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm daily. Day Camp Counselors will be expected to commit to a 40 hour work week for one week of training, and three weeks of camp.
Ensure the safety and health of all campers in accordance with applicable Kentucky Department of Health requirements
Implement and monitor camp activities as directed
Communicate positively and enthusiastically with campers, parents, staff and volunteers
Treat each child with dignity and respect to ensure exceptional guest experience
Be familiar with the history of the Shakers in general and Pleasant Hill in particular
Be familiar with and able to implement emergency procedures
Ensure cleanliness of facilities and maintain all equipment and property, minimizing damage
Report all accidents and incidents involving self, participants, guests or other employees
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Skills and Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be a self-motivator and willing to learn new skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Positive attitude, problem solving, and flexibility
Ability to engage and educate children through experiential programs
Ability to work in a collaborative team structure
Show flexibility and creativity in support of all Shaker Village activities.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma required
Bachelor's Degree in a related field, with relevant professional or performance experience preferred
Experience working with children under age 12
Knowledge of crafts, group games, sports and other outdoor pursuits
Mental and Physical Requirements:
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell
Frequently required to stand and walk for at least an hour at a time; occasionally sit and climb or balance
Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and lift and/or move heavier loads with a team as needed.
Working Environment and Conditions:
Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
This position requires working some evenings.
This position may work on programming around large, live animals
This position may work on our river boat and must know how to swim
This position is subject to a background check and drug testing

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
