Position Summary
Reporting to and partnering with the Housekeeping Manager, the Public Space Staff supports the mission of Shaker Village by ensuring that all interior public spaces and offices are clean, providing housekeeping and event supply delivery across the property, assisting in setup and breakdown for events, and assisting housekeepers as needed. Provides a welcoming experience for both guests and staff.
Responsibilities
Thoughtfully cleans all designated areas, including: exhibits, program areas, meeting spaces, retail shops, offices and restrooms.
Cares for cleanliness of floors by: vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, and wet mopping as needed.
Thoroughly sanitizes and cleans surfaces in all designated spaces, including restrooms and staff break rooms.
Ensures that corners, window sills, shelves and other hard to reach areas are consistently clean and dust free.
Collects trash and recycling from all designated areas, ensuring clean receptacles and appropriate disposal of waste.
Applies appropriate cleaning solutions as designated by the Housekeeping Supervisor, giving consideration to both the historic nature of Shaker buildings and other environmental concerns.
Launders curtains, rugs, fabrics, etc. per schedule and as directed by the Housekeeping Manager.
Stocks all assigned restrooms and meeting spaces according to needs.
Assists with the maintenance and stocking of all supply closets and storage areas.
Operates, cleans and maintains all equipment, tools and vehicles used to fulfill position responsibilities, including: vacuums, two-way radios, golf carts, trucks, etc.
Supports the housekeeping department by delivering requested supplies, linens and other materials daily, per written and verbal requests from housekeepers.
Partners with and supports the Director of Event Sales to ensure timely and appropriate delivery, setup, breakdown and storage of all event supplies, which may include: tables, chairs, temporary trash receptacles, temporary recycling receptacles, smoking stations, tents, warming stations, coolers, hay bales, program supplies, etc.
Contributes to the health and safety of Village guests and staff through attentiveness to safety concerns and the immediate reporting of and response to safety needs.
Assesses all maintenance needs with a critical eye, communicating with the Maintenance Team to implement repairs that solve problems at the source, preventing the need for repeat repairs and persistent issues.
Provides assistance with all housekeeping needs, as assigned by the Housekeeping Manager.
Supports positive guest service by making deliveries of supplies, toiletries and other guest-requested items as directed.
Responds promptly and effectively to work orders as required, prioritizing responses in collaboration with the Housekeeping Manager, to ensure a safe environment, high guest satisfaction, and a positive work space for all members of the staff team.
Upholds high standards for the care of a National Historic Landmark, following best practices drawn from nationally recognized resources and specified by the Housekeeping Manager.
Contributes to the overall sustainability of the organization by the effective use of assets and inventory control.
Ensures that all work is conducted according to appropriate safety guidelines and utilizing appropriate personal protection equipment.
Is familiar with SVPH crisis management/emergency procedures, and serves as a responder to their level of training as required.
Is familiar with and follows all key control and security procedures.
Assists with the appropriate storage and disposal of supplies, chemicals and other items as needed, with specific regard for environmental impact.
Appropriately represents the organization, its Board and the President/CEO to guests, volunteers and donors.
Interacts with all Village staff and guests in a positive, helpful way, establishing a supportive culture that promotes high-quality experiences at SVPH.
Updates job knowledge for him/herself by remaining aware of new standards and regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Accomplishes facilities and organization mission by completing additional tasks as assigned and related results as needed.
Responds and completes any tasks assigned by management.

Education and Experience
An experienced worker, with at least 3 years of experience in custodial, housekeeping, maintenance or facility services.
Previous experience working in historic preservation or in historic properties preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Position will require use of a company vehicle while conducting certain Shaker Village business.
High School Diploma required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
Maintain concentration with time pressures and interruptions.
Sit, stand or walk for considerable length of time.
Perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, climbing, crawling and walking.
Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Ability to operate motor vehicles, lift/move equipment, materials, supplies and tools; wear protective clothing as required by work environment or government regulations.
Working Environment and Conditions
This position will require working outdoors in all weather conditions.
This position will require working evenings and weekends.
This position will require working around machinery with a moderate noise level.
This position will require working with cleaning solutions, including bleach.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
