Forming Technology Engineer

Corning's Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays ("LCDs") that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.


 


DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Recommend process improvements for quality, yield, or cost improvement. Documentation of improvements and process understanding.

  • Assist with transfer of technology across the business, US and overseas (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China)

  • Support plant engineering organizations in problem solving; applying the fundamentals of heat transfer and fluid dynamics to determine root cause of problems.

  • Focus on building knowledge of the existing process and capabilities. Engage in early stage developments from Research and Development group.


 


PROJECTS INVOLVED WITH:



  • Transfer and migration of new technology; process setups, standard methodologies and troubleshooting guidelines to Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan.

  • Attribute improvement programs, defining strategy and implementing plans. Cost reduction targeting increased asset utilization and decreased capital requirements.


 


ROLE WITHIN GROUP:



  • Individual contributor on projects, along with leading small projects.

  • Engineering position to support startup of forming process. Includes startup of equipment and developing setup to deliver required quality attributes.

  • Documenting of statuses and issues and developing plan to resolve issues.

  • Collaborate with design and equipment engineering groups.


 


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:



  • 60% domestic and international


 


HOURS OF WORK/WORK SCHEDULE/FLEX-TIME:



  • Generally, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Evening conference calls, weekend and shift work occasionally required, depending on project responsibilities


 


Required Education and Experience:



  • BS in Engineering (Strong preference for Mechanical, Aerospace, Material Science, Chemical & Ceramic)

  • 3+ years of experience, previous internship or co-op experience preferred


 


REQUIRED SKILLS:



  • Prior Heat Transfer experience

  • We are seeking an individual with shown problem-solving skills, experience with the use of scientific method & approach, rigor, and adaptable to change.

  • You will need to be culturally aware working with our overseas teams.


 


DESIRED SKILLS:



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse environment. Asian language skills a plus.

  • Hot glass experience or any Process Engineering experience

  • Fluid Flow

  • Statistical techniques


 


SOFT SKILLS:



  • Time management; someone who is able to respond quickly and effectively to short-term issues while continuing to move forward on the long-term programs.

  • Perseverance and the capability to learn quickly and work well independently while fostering a strong team atmosphere

  • Self- motivated, responds to stress and process emergencies with appropriate urgency

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
