Engineering Project Manager - Gorilla Glass

Day to Day Responsibilities: Provide project management and technical leadership to teams responsible to successfully transfer new products and processes from development to manufacturing in support of overall Gorilla Glass business objectives. Assigned projects will typically possess high levels of complexity, involve multiple technologies, and have significant financial or strategic impact on the business. Position requires a demonstrated skills in manufacturing engineering, project management and team leadership, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to work across innovation stages 2, 3 and 4.


Key responsibilities include:

  1. Delivery¬ of key project objectives (safety, quality / performance, schedule, spending)

  2. Define and successfully execute project plans that support overall business objectives

  3. Development and leadership of effective project teams. Establish roles, responsibilities and competencies required for the project. ¬ Builds an effective project team utilizing internal and external personnel resources with the ability to operate and supervise matrixed organizations. Establish receivership requirements for project.

  4. Effectively implements all phases of project management methodologies including initiation, planning, implementation and control, and close-out.

  5. Understand nature of the business requirements for each project. Establish requirements with internal customers and stakeholders. Responsible to make important, major or strategic decisions which may significantly impact the overall project deliverables to the Customer.

  6. Conduct project meetings and document key issues, action items and decisions. Communicates and provides guidance to project team members based on organizational goals and company policy

  7. Manage the performance of team members and outside resources to meet the project requirements. Effectively manages external contractors, engineering consultants, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to achieve project goals and objective

  8. Provide periodic project updates to customer and management Communicates project goals, objectives, key status information and overall impact of the project effectively with project team members.

  • Hours:¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬  8 am ‚€“ 5 pm with ability to support off-hours conference calls / meetings with international project teams and extended hours as required to meet project objectives


Qualifications Required

  1. Engineering Degree ‚€“ Bachelor's minimum, Master of Science preferred Desired

  2. One or more of the following external certifications: PMP, Green / Black Belt, Innovation Black Belt


Required Skills & Experience:

  1. 15 - 20 years of experience with a variety of roles in development, engineering, operations and / or manufacturing

  2. ¬ Prior supervisory / functional management experience.

  3. Proven track record successfully delivering complex engineering projects involving multiple technologies, new product / process transfer to high volume manufacturing, and significant financial or strategic impact to the business.

  4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of fundamental understanding for new products / processes, new principles, and new concepts.

  5. Ability to effectively work across development, engineering, manufacturing functions and influence decisions / set direction in support of overall business objectives.

  6. Demonstrated expertise in process engineering and use of structured problem solving skills (i.e. MEE, PeX, DMAIC, DSGN, K-T, MIE, etc.).

  7. Technically curious and willing to learn. Must be comfortable with ambiguity common in early stage development environment on Gorilla, and have the ability to effectively manage resultant change on assigned programs, projects, and teams.

  8. Demonstrated ability to work across geographic and cultural boundaries, and experience leading large, multi-national engineering project teams. Practices adaptive management style to effectively manage projects in global operating arena. Has successful experience working with many different cultures on previous international assignments.

  9. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (operators up to Sr. Management), Contract Manufacturers, and external Customers.


Optional Skills & Experience:

  • Plant Engineering Manager and / or Technology Manager roles

  • Work experience in China, Korea, Taiwan, and / or Japan

  • Previous roles / experience in one or more technology areas typically utilized by Gorilla Glass: process engineering, glass finishing, optical metrology, equipment design, ink jet and / or screen printing, chemical strengthening, heat treatment

  • Previous experience in the consumer electronics, cover glass, and / or touch panel manufacturing industry.

  • Previous experience transferring new products and processes to customers / contract manufacturers.

  • Possesses strong network with Corning global technical community and key external suppliers / partners.
